Cycle parking
There is a huge demand for cycle parking in the city. Approximately 80 'Sheffield stands' are planned to be installed every year from 2006 until 2011.
With this rising demand for cycle parking in Brighton & Hove, the city council is also keen to reduce incidences of fly parking (cycles attached to street furniture not intended for that purpose). We are looking at innovative ways of providing cycle parking through on-carriageway cycle parking or Pedal Cycle Parking Places (PCPPs). These can provide a cycle parking solution, especially where the opportunity to place cycle stands in a street is limited. PCPPs have been trialled in the city centre on Bedford Place and Tichborne Street. There are plans to install more PCPPs over the next year.
Contact our team to suggest If you have a suggestion of where we could install more cycle parking.
Our cycle theft leaflet (see below) gives you some tips about how to lock your bike to reduce the chances of having it stolen. If you can't use a 'Sheffield stand' to lock your bike please consider other users of the pavement and try not to obstruct walkways when you park your bike.
Cycle theft
Bike off is a national project to encourage cyclists to lock their bikes securely to help avoid having them stolen. A bike-off leaflet has been produced, and you may have seen stickers on bike stands in central areas of the city. Download the leaflet here bike off leaflet (front) [pdf] & bike off leaflet (back) [pdf].
Brighton & Hove Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership works towards reducing crime and disorder in the city and its Safe in the City website has a cycle theft section where you can find further information.
You can report a stolen bike on the Sussex Police Cycle theft online reporting page.
You can also report anti-social driving on Sussex Police's dedicated Operation Crackdown website. You need to provide as much detail as possible. It is best to have the registration number and location of incident.
